How does Altitude define vehicle classes?

Altitude supports privacy-preserving vehicle filtering so you can build contextualized Commercial Movement Insights. As the primary source of data, we detect the vehicle’s VIN through our GO device. From the VIN, we determine vehicle type and weight class:

Vehicle class (GVWR-based)
Light-duty (Classes 1–2), Medium-duty (3–6), Heavy-duty (7–8). Determined from VIN→GVWR where available; otherwise shown as Unknown.
Weight class (1–8)
1: ≤6,000 lb • 2: 6,001–10,000 • 3: 10,001–14,000 • 4: 14,001–16,000 • 5: 16,001–19,500 • 6: 19,501–26,000 • 7: 26,001–33,000 • 8: ≥33,001.
Classification schemas (API)
CFR (0), VIUS (1), FHA-GVWR (2 — used in UI), Truck Weight 1–8 (3), CARB (4). Choose the scheme that aligns to your workflow; the UI defaults to FHA-GVWR.
Fuel type
Diesel, Gasoline, Electric, Hybrid, Flexible, Other, Unknown.
