How does the Altitude platform categorize road classes for analysis?

Altitude uses OSM road type classifications, including motorways, trunk roads, primary, secondary, and tertiary roads, as well as residential and unclassified segments.

For planning clarity, Altitude groups OpenStreetMap road classes into five categories:

  • Highways (motorway)

  • Arterials (trunk, primary, secondary, tertiary)

  • Collectors (motorway_link, trunk/primary/secondary/tertiary_links)

  • Local roads (living_street, residential, service)

  • Other (unclassified, road)

See the Altitude Data Dictionary for more detailed information on road classes.
