Can I use Altitude AADT for HPMS or MIRE reporting?
Yes, with a methodological classification difference to note when documenting AADT_Single_Unit and AADT_Combination values.
Altitude AADT can support HPMS submissions and MIRE-related reporting. The MIRE Fundamental Data Elements include AADT_Single_Unit (FHWA Classes 4-7) and AADT_Combination (FHWA Classes 8-13), required for all National Highway System and Sample Panel sections under 23 CFR Part 924. Page 138 of the FHWA MIRE Data Collection Handbook explicitly allows third-party AADT sources for this reporting.
Altitude's Heavy (GVWR 6-8) and Medium (GVWR 3-5) vehicle groups serve the same analytical use case as these MIRE truck FDEs, identifying how many heavy and medium commercial vehicles use each road segment. However, Altitude classifies vehicles by Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (weight-based), while FHWA classifies by axle configuration. The two systems are not a 1:1 mapping. Agencies using Altitude AADT for MIRE reporting should note this classification difference in their methodology documentation.
